MEMO:

TO:  ALL DISTRICT STAFF

RE: LAYOFF AVOIDANCE PLAN

I am so happy to report that all of our efforts at reducing our deficit have paid off.  We have been able to get the State to add revenue to our budget and because of the reduced hours we are very close to a balanced budget.  Although we still may end up out of balance we believe that our efforts have paid off enough to cancel the Layoff Avoidance Plan.

Effective Monday March 23 we will resume our regular work hours.  I want to thank each of you for the sacrifice you made.  I know how painful this was both in terms of monetary pain but also the anxiety that the uncertainty brought.  What I observed from you was a willingness to do what was necessary to continue to provide the service to our consumers that they have come to expect.

I know we face tough times in the future.  Reality tells me that our need to be fiscally responsible is just beginning.  Yet this event proved how resilient we are and that when faced with adversity we will respond and we will respond positively.  We will look back on this event as a watershed moment in the life of the District when we faced hard choices and we didn’t flinch.

On behalf of the Executive staff I want to thank each of you for you efforts.
